- BoardBuild is an innovative platform for emerging and established leaders and nonprofit organizations to connect and form board-level relationships. Through engaging board governance training and an algorithm-based matching system, individuals are trained and optimally paired with nonprofits to serve as qualified board members. BoardBuild strengthens organizations with the skills of diverse leaders, and in turn, helps to further community development.
- Currently we are in our building phase with plans for a soft rollout on July 1, 2019 and a full rollout on September 1, 2019.
- Our scope is national. Once we have achieved an optimal platform we’ll begin to expand.

BoardBuild’s self-paced, online, on-demand training consists of 7 lessons and 22 topics:

The course also provides essential information for organizational sustainability:
- The importance of financial support by each board member
- The complexity of CEO/staff relationships
- Strategic planning
- The value of a reserve fund
- Each module is approximately 20 to 30 minutes in length.
- There is a short quiz after each lesson, as well as a worksheet to help reinforce what participants are learning.
- Throughout each module, a nationally known comedy troupe is featured for a lively learning experience.
- At the end of the course, participants who pass a final test will earn a BoardBuild Qualified badge and will be registered in BoardBuild’s online matching system.
After course participants successfully complete the training, they are automatically enrolled in the online matching system.
- Course participants will fill out a profile that lists their skills and areas of interest.
- Nonprofit organizations will post listings for prospective board members. Listings will specify mission, board size, program areas and organizational age among other identifying characteristics.
- The program will automatically match suitable candidates with nonprofit agencies.
An algorithm will sort through an individual’s reported interests and skills and match those with nonprofits looking for similar board candidates. The system will generate a list of nonprofit board openings that are ranked to align from high to low with an individual’s identified skills and interests. A search function will allow an individual to learn more about each nonprofit and the contact person at the nonprofit.
BoardBuild does not verify the background information provided by prospective board candidates. Parties are advised to conduct their own due diligence.
Nonprofit organizations are required to provide an IRS Letter of Determination, as well as an organizational profile. Potential board candidates are advised to conduct their own due diligence as part of the matching process.
